Where We Buy · Illinois · Lawrence County

Sell your Lawrence County mineral rights.

Lawrenceville, Bridgeport, Sumner: we buy minerals and royalties throughout Lawrence County, the Lawrence field on the Indiana line, now Campbell Energy's.

Lawrence County is one field, mostly, and that field has had a lot of owners. The Ohio Oil Company drilled the Lawrence field up along the La Salle anticline in the early 1900s, Marathon ran it for decades, and it passed through Plains Illinois, PennTex and Rex Energy before Campbell Energy bought Rex's Illinois Basin position for $40 million in 2016. The royalty owners stayed put through all of it, and a great many of them are now three generations removed from the lease.

What produces here. The Illinois Petroleum Resources Board puts Lawrence County at 226,235 barrels for calendar 2025, ninth in the state, down from 291,845 in 2024, a 22 percent drop and the third largest decline in Illinois. The oil comes from the Lawrence field, one of the six consolidated fields that make up half the basin, and from the south end of Main Consolidated, Allendale, Lancaster, Berryville, Ruark, Beman, St. Francisville and the Russellville gas field, with pay in the Pennsylvanian and Chester sands, Cypress and Benoist, and the Ste. Genevieve, St. Louis and Salem beneath; the ISGS database carries about 5,200 unplugged oil producer records here, most of them still under the Ohio Oil, Marathon, Plains and PennTex names. The operators you will see on checks and in the county records today include Campbell Energy, CDG Operations, Dee Drilling of Mount Carmel, David Hulfachor and Herman L. Loeb of Lawrenceville. Drilling picked up in 2026: the IDNR weekly permit logs show one oil well permit in 2025, CDG's L K Leighty 107 to the Salem in November, and at least five in 2026, Dee Drilling's Jim Kelsey 5 in the Cypress in April and JC Catt 1A and Catt 2-A to the Salem at 2,650 feet in May and June, and CDG's H H Gould 47 and E Leighty 111 to the Salem at 2,375 feet on August 25, 2026, along with two Hulfachor injection permits on the Seed lease.

Whatever you own here, producing royalties, non-producing acreage, or an inherited fraction split among family, we will identify it from whatever paperwork you have, value it off the actual wells and activity, and show you the reasoning with the offer. Free, no obligation, and no pressure: if keeping it is the right answer, we will say so. Inherited it? Start with inherited mineral rights in Illinois.

Questions

Straight answers for Lawrence County owners

What are mineral rights worth in Lawrence County?
It depends on the wells and units actually touching your tract, their decline, and your decimal, and in Lawrence County that usually means a share of a flood unit in the Lawrence field that has changed operators four times since Marathon, so county averages mislead. Illinois publishes no well-level production, so the operator's statements and your division order are the record. We value off them and show the work, free.
My Lawrence County checks come from Campbell Energy now. Did my interest change?
No. The lease and your decimal travel with the property when an operator sells, and Campbell bought Rex Energy's roughly 76,000 net acres in the basin in 2016 subject to the existing leases. What does change is the payor, and the Oil and Gas Rights Act, 765 ILCS 520/10, still requires payment per the lease or within 60 days after the month of an oil sale, with interest at the New York Fed discount rate on late amounts and 30 days written notice before suit. If a transfer left you in suspense, text us the last stub.
Does Illinois take a severance tax out of my royalty?
No. Illinois has no severance or gross production tax on conventional oil and gas. The 3 percent Hydraulic Fracturing Tax reaches only wells permitted under the 2013 horizontal fracturing law, and the Lawrence field is vertical and conventional. Lease deductions and Illinois income tax are what come off your check.
What does it cost me to sell?
Nothing. Berlin pays all title work, document preparation, and recording costs. The offer you accept is the amount you receive.
