Carlyle, Breese, Trenton: we buy minerals and royalties throughout Clinton County, quiet acreage on the west edge of the basin with the Centralia and Carlyle fields underneath.
Clinton County is a quiet county and this page will treat it as one. Carlyle had a field by 1912 and the Devonian at Centralia made headlines in the late 1930s, with the best wells coming in at as much as 12,000 barrels a day, but nobody has permitted a well of any kind here in 2024, 2025 or 2026. What is left is a few hundred old wells and a lot of families in Breese, Carlyle and Trenton holding a small royalty their grandparents signed for.
What produces here. The Illinois Petroleum Resources Board puts Clinton County at 75,682 barrels for calendar 2025, down from 77,941 in 2024, a little over one percent of the state. The oil comes from the west half of the Centralia field, shared with Marion County, and from Patoka, Carlyle, Carlyle North, Bartelso, Beaver Creek South, New Memphis, Fairman, Germantown East, Posey, Frogtown North and Shattuc, with more wells bottomed in the Devonian and Silurian than in any other formation and the Mississippian Benoist, Bethel and Cypress above; the ISGS database carries about 1,150 unplugged oil producer records here. Gulf, Shell and Sohio are on the historical records, and the smaller names in the county records include Elmer Oelze Jr., Adams Oil and Gas, Jet Oil, Surpass Oil and Gas and T. M. Conrey. There is no recent activity to report: the IDNR weekly permit logs for 2025 and 2026 through late October contain no Clinton County permits, and the ISGS well database shows none dated 2024 either.
Whatever you own here, producing royalties, non-producing acreage, or an inherited fraction split among family, we will identify it from whatever paperwork you have, value it off the actual wells and activity, and show you the reasoning with the offer. Free, no obligation, and no pressure: if keeping it is the right answer, we will say so. Inherited it? Start with inherited mineral rights in Illinois.
The west half of the Centralia field on the Marion County line, where the Devonian wells of the late 1930s came in at thousands of barrels a day, plus Patoka, Carlyle, Carlyle North, Bartelso, Beaver Creek South, New Memphis, Fairman, Germantown East, Posey, Frogtown North and Shattuc.
Clinton County is deeper pay than most of the basin: more wells here bottom in the Devonian and Silurian than in anything else, with the Mississippian Benoist, Bethel and Cypress above and the Ordovician Galena in a few of the old tests.
