Robinson, Oblong, Palestine: we buy minerals and royalties throughout Crawford County, the Main Consolidated field and the shallow Robinson sand.
Crawford County is where Illinois oil started. Benedum and Trees leased 50,000 acres and completed the Robert Athey 1 in 1905, Mahutska Oil drilled the Shire farm at Oblong in 1906, and the shallow Robinson sand has been pumping ever since: the ISGS well database carries about 7,600 unplugged oil producer records and 5,700 plugged ones here, more than any other county in the state. The royalties are small, old, and remarkably durable, and almost every one of them has passed through two or three estates.
What produces here. The Illinois Petroleum Resources Board puts Crawford County at 547,275 barrels for calendar 2025, third in the state, down from 583,303 in 2024. Nearly all of it is the Main Consolidated field, the old Robinson and Oblong pools along the La Salle anticline, producing from the Pennsylvanian Robinson, Spoon and Caseyville sands at 900 to 1,300 feet under waterflood, with smaller Mississippian production at Bellair, New Bellair and New Hebron East. The Ohio Oil Company and Marathon names are still on the historical records; the operators you will see on checks and in the county records today include B and D Resources and Anicline Energy of Robinson, LaCross, Bergbower Energy, Triangle Oil, Fain Oil, Dogwood Creek Oil and Maus's Well Service. The county had more permits in 2026 than anywhere in Illinois outside White County, and most of them were flood work: the IDNR weekly logs show at least 10 oil well permits in 2026 through late October, including B and D's four Kirk wells in September and Anicline's Francis lease wells in the Caseyville at 1,160 feet, plus 32 water injection permits, 14 of them LaCross's Barrick, Walters and Conover leases, and three Robinson sand gas wells permitted to Randell D. Smith in February 2026. In 2025 the logs show 14 oil permits, seven of them Anicline's.
Whatever you own here, producing royalties, non-producing acreage, or an inherited fraction split among family, we will identify it from whatever paperwork you have, value it off the actual wells and activity, and show you the reasoning with the offer. Free, no obligation, and no pressure: if keeping it is the right answer, we will say so. Inherited it? Start with inherited mineral rights in Illinois.
The 1905 to 1906 discoveries near Robinson and Oblong opened the Illinois Basin, and the shallow Pennsylvanian Robinson, Spoon and Caseyville sands at 900 to 1,300 feet still carry the county, almost entirely under waterflood.
The smaller fields on the Jasper County line, with Mississippian pay in the Ste. Genevieve, Cypress and Aux Vases beneath the Pennsylvanian.
