Research & Data

Berlin Research.

The methodology, data, and tools behind our offers, published for anyone to use, cite, or argue with.

Most mineral buyers treat their methods as secrets. We think the opposite is the better business: a seller who can see how a number was built can judge it, and a number that cannot survive being shown is not a number worth offering. This page collects what we publish.

The methodology

The Berlin Mineral Valuation Methodology is the full write-up of how we value a mineral or royalty interest: producing value, undeveloped location value, and title risk, with a worked example and the assumptions stated. It is the same framework behind every offer we make and every free valuation we run.

The data

  • Drilling activity blocks on our state and county pages: active rigs, permits approved in the last 90 days, and completions in the last 90 days, sourced from Enverus and refreshed monthly, across every county where we buy.
  • The operator directory at /operators/: operators in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming, searchable by name or number, refreshed weekly from state regulator records, with ownership-change notices when a payor changes hands.
  • Open datasets at /datasets/: the operator directory as citable CC BY CSV files with a versioned manifest, refreshed weekly.
  • A machine-readable layer: this site publishes a JSON API (documented at /openapi.json), a clean markdown twin of every page, /llms.txt, and an MCP server at /mcp (discovery card at /.well-known/mcp.json) so AI agents can query the operator directory, royalty payment law, county drilling activity, and the decimal and doc-stamp math directly.
  • The activity map at /activity-map/: every Oklahoma county and Louisiana parish Berlin tracks, shaded by current drilling activity, rebuilt from Enverus data monthly.

The tools

Thirteen free calculators, no email required, including the mineral rights value calculator, the net mineral acres calculator, the royalty decimal calculator, the pooling election calculator, and the letter generator.

How we research this site

Production, rig, and permit figures come from Enverus and from state regulators, primarily the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Legal and statutory statements are checked against the statutes and agency publications they cite. County facts are verified against well data before a county page ships. When we get something wrong, we correct the page and stamp the update. And because Berlin buys the assets this site writes about, we disclose that interest plainly wherever it matters: we are a buyer, our deeds are public record, and about half the time our honest answer to a seller is keep it.
