Roger Mills has 11 rigs running, tied with Grady for the most of any county in Oklahoma, and 38 permits approved in the last ninety days, the most in the state. Against that, only 2,283 wells are producing here. It is one of the most intensively developed counties in Oklahoma and one of the least written about.
Mewbourne Oil is the reason. Of the 106 wells that first produced in Roger Mills since January 2024, Mewbourne drilled 38. Crawley Petroleum drilled 19, Upland Operating 13 and Charter Oak 11. Mewbourne is a private company that does not issue press releases, which is a large part of why a county this active generates no headlines.
