Sweetwater County is mature Green River Basin gas with a genuinely interesting overprint: a horizontal Lewis Shale oil program running directly above the long established Almond production.

That stacking is the valuation story. Crowheart Energy has drilled 61 horizontals in the county, 43 of them Lewis completions, frequently on acreage that already produces from the Almond, and Lance and Mesaverde add depth beneath. An interest producing from one interval may well support wells in another, and a number derived only from your current check will not capture it. Contango, now servicing through Crescent and moving to Aethel, holds Monell; Amplify runs Lost Soldier and Wertz; North Shore, Rangeview, Breitburn, Wexpro, Hilcorp, Cobra, and BCE-Mach are also present. Roughly 2,768 wells produce out of nearly 14,000 drilled.

The ownership picture is the hard part. Sweetwater is about 65 percent BLM and 3 percent state, and much of the nominally private acreage is Union Pacific land grant checkerboard where odd sections carry railroad conveyed minerals. Those passed through Anadarko to Occidental and were largely sold to Orion Mine Finance in 2020 in a transaction covering roughly 5.5 million acres. Family held fee minerals here are genuinely scarce, and establishing whether you hold fee, federal derived, or checkerboard interests is the first step.

Wyoming protects your royalty from production cost deductions by statute, has no individual income tax, and has no dormant mineral act. Send us a legal description and we will sort out what you own.

Questions

## Straight answers for Sweetwater County owners

Is there really stacked potential in Sweetwater County?
Yes, and it is the key valuation point here. The Lewis Shale sits directly above the Almond, and both are overpressured Upper Cretaceous intervals producing oil and gas. Crowheart has drilled 61 horizontals in the county with 43 of them Lewis completions, on acreage that in many cases was already producing from the Almond. Lance and Mesaverde add further depth. An interest already producing from one interval may support wells in another, and a valuation based only on your current check will miss that.

Are my Sweetwater County minerals actually fee minerals?
Worth checking carefully, because family held fee minerals here are genuinely rare. The county is roughly 65 percent BLM and about 3 percent state, and much of the remaining private acreage is Union Pacific land grant checkerboard, where odd sections were conveyed to the railroad with the minerals. Those interests passed through Anadarko to Occidental and were largely sold to Orion Mine Finance in a 2020 transaction covering roughly 5.5 million acres. So most Sweetwater fee is corporate rather than family held. We establish which you have before quoting.

Can the operator deduct processing costs from my Sweetwater royalty?
Not the costs of making the gas marketable. W.S. section 30-5-304 defines royalty free of the costs of production and expressly excludes from that definition only the direct costs of transporting oil from the storage tanks, transporting gas from the point of entry into the market pipeline, and processing gas in a plant. Gathering, dehydration, and compression are costs of production and are not deductible. That is a stronger position than owners have in most gas producing states.
