## Your Aethon Check Now Says Adamas. Here Is What to Check.

By **Stephen Clayman** · September 5, 2026

If you own minerals in the Haynesville, there is a decent chance the name on your royalty check just changed, or is about to. Aethon was one of the biggest operators in the play, tens of thousands of royalty owners across northwest Louisiana and East Texas got paid by them every month, and as of this summer those wells belong to somebody new.

Nothing is wrong. But an operator change is exactly the moment when small paperwork problems start, so here is what happened and what to look at.

## Why does my royalty check say Adamas Energy instead of Aethon?

Mitsubishi, the Japanese conglomerate, bought Aethon's Haynesville business, wells and midstream together, in a deal that closed in July 2026 at a price reported around $7.5 billion. The operation now runs as Adamas Energy, a Mitsubishi company. Your wells, your lease, and your decimal did not change. The payor did.

## What the sale does not change

Your lease, if you have one, is unchanged: a sale of the lessee's interest does not rewrite its terms, and whatever royalty rate and deduction language your family negotiated still controls. If you are an unleased owner in a Louisiana compulsory unit, your protections did not move either; the operator's duty to account to you, and the *Self v. BPX* rule against charging post production costs to unleased owners, apply to Adamas exactly as they applied to Aethon. And in Louisiana, production from the unit keeps interrupting prescription on your servitude the same as before, whoever signs the checks.

## What to actually check

**Open the mail from the unfamiliar name.** Letters from "Adamas Energy" are not junk, and neither are transfer notices or new direct deposit forms. Owners throw these away every time an operator changes hands, and that is how checks stop.

**Compare the new check stub to the old one, line by line.** Your decimal should be identical to the last Aethon stub, and the deduction lines should look the same. Ownership did not change, so the decimal must not. We wrote a full walkthrough in [how to read and understand your royalty statement](https://www.berlinroyalties.com/oil-scout/how-to-read-and-understand-your-royalty-statement/), and if you are not sure what kind of interest you even hold, [types of oil and gas interests](https://www.berlinroyalties.com/oil-scout/types-of-oil-gas-interests/) sorts it out. If the numbers moved, ask why in writing before cashing quietly for a year.

**Read any new division order before signing it.** A payor change often comes with fresh division orders. The only thing a new division order should do is confirm the same decimal under a new name. If it arrives with new terms attached, that is worth a hard look, and worth a free second opinion from us or your attorney.

**Keep your address and heirship current.** Transitions are when owner records get scrambled. If a family member who received checks has died, or the address on file is a house you sold, fix it with Adamas owner relations now, because money that cannot find you goes to suspense.

**If checks stop, do not just wait.** Louisiana and Texas both put deadlines and interest behind royalty payments, and both start with a written demand. Our [royalty payment laws page](https://www.berlinroyalties.com/royalty-payment-laws/) has the state by state rules and the statute citations.

## The bigger picture for Haynesville owners

The Adamas deal is part of a pattern: rigs in the Haynesville roughly doubled between early 2025 and mid 2026, LNG terminals on the Gulf Coast are pulling billions of cubic feet a day of new demand, and money this serious is consolidating the play, with Expand Energy formed from Chesapeake and Southwestern, Mitsubishi buying in, and new drillers like Apex leasing hard. We covered the whole cycle on our [Louisiana Haynesville page](https://www.berlinroyalties.com/louisiana/haynesville-shale/).

For owners, consolidation cuts two ways. It usually means well run operations and reliable checks. It also means the people valuing your minerals are better informed than ever, which is worth remembering the next time a mailer lands. If you want to know what your interest is actually worth in this market, with the arithmetic shown, that is the job we do free: run it through the [free valuation form](https://www.berlinroyalties.com/free-valuation/), or text a photo of your latest statement, Aethon or Adamas, to [918-984-1645](tel:9189841645) and we will tell you what it says, what it should say, and what the interest behind it is worth.
