Gibson County is where Indiana's modern oil industry started, in the Griffin pool along the Wabash in 1938, and it is still one of the two counties where a drilling rig is a normal sight. It is also coal country, which matters for minerals: the Toyota plant and the Gibson Generating Station are the big employers, but under the farms the coal, the oil and gas, and now the gas in the coal are often three different estates owned by three different families.

**What produces here.** Oil from Griffin Consolidated, Warrenton East, West Fork Consolidated, Owensville North Consolidated, Princeton North Consolidated, Union Bowman Consolidated, Patoka East Consolidated, and Mt. Carmel Consolidated, in Pennsylvanian sands and the Mississippian Cypress, Tar Springs, Big Clifty, Aux Vases, Ste. Genevieve, Salem, Warsaw, and Borden, plus shallow coalbed methane from the Springfield V coal. Indiana publishes production only statewide, not by county: the Division of Oil and Gas reported 115,486 barrels and 239,449 Mcf for July 2026 and 1,315,471 barrels and 2,887,306 Mcf for all of 2025. The operators you will see on checks and in the county records include Nichols Operating, which completed Hardinman-Kolb Unit 3 in July 2025 and John Braselton and Bellamy and Kerns in June 2026 and is converting Margaret Kolb wells to injection in Owensville North; Moore Engineering, Hartman Farms 3 completed at 3,057 feet in August 2025; Citation Oil and Gas, Maier 18X-12 completed at 3,885 feet in January 2026; Indian Black Water, Quantum Exploration, Southern Triangle, Trey Exploration, Ungetheim Production, and Jackson Oil, whose Kieffer-Spurlin 72 was a 4,180-foot Trenton dry hole. The newest activity is gas: Keyrock Energy permitted Jones, Hirsch, and four Sensmeier coalbed methane wells between December 2025 and July 2026 and completed Princeton Farms 1 at 406 feet, and Pioneer Oil, the state's largest operator with 341 wells, permitted MFH CBM and Horrall CBM in July 2026. Eight of the nine permits Indiana issued that month were in Gibson County.

Whatever you own here, producing royalties, non-producing acreage, or an inherited fraction split among family, we will identify it from whatever paperwork you have, value it off the actual wells and activity, and show you the reasoning with the offer. Free, no obligation, and no pressure: if keeping it is the right answer, we will say so. Inherited it? Carmel Consolidated: Pennsylvanian sands and the Mississippian Big Clifty, Cypress, Tar Springs, Aux Vases, Ste. Genevieve, and Salem at 1,000 to 3,000 feet.

### Springfield V coal, coalbed methane

Shallow gas wells to about 400 to 650 feet in the Springfield coal, the one place in Indiana where a new gas permit still shows up. Keyrock Energy and Pioneer Oil permitted nine of them in Gibson between December 2025 and July 2026.

Questions

## Straight answers for Gibson County owners

What are mineral rights worth in Gibson County?
It depends on the wells and units actually touching your tract, their decline, and your decimal, and in Gibson County that ranges from an 80-year-old Griffin royalty to a waterflood unit to a shallow coalbed methane lease, so county averages mislead. Indiana publishes production only statewide, so your check stubs and division orders are the record. We value off the actual wells and activity and show the work, free.

Can my Gibson County mineral rights expire?
Yes. Under the Dormant Mineral Interest Act, Indiana Code 32-23-10, a severed mineral interest unused for 20 years is extinguished and reverts to the surface owner, with no advance notice required; the U.S. Supreme Court upheld it in Texaco v. Short in 1982. Use means production, rentals or royalties paid, taxes paid, pooled use, or a statement of claim recorded with the Gibson County Recorder before the 20 years run. Gibson has a lot of severed minerals under coal company and farm land that have not been leased in decades, which is exactly where the statute bites. We check the dormant mineral record before we quote a number.

I have a coalbed methane lease in Gibson County. Who owns that gas?
It depends on how the coal and the minerals were severed in your chain of title, and Gibson deeds often split the coal from the oil and gas decades ago. The coalbed methane wells here are shallow, 400 to 650 feet in the Springfield V coal, and the gas royalty follows whichever estate the deed language assigns it to. We read the deeds, not the family story, and tell you what you own before we talk price.

What does it cost me to sell?
Nothing. Berlin pays all title work, document preparation, and recording costs. The offer you accept is the amount you receive.
