Richland County is a legacy county. Pure Oil and Union Oil of California drilled the Olney and Clay City leases in the 1930s and 1940s, the ISGS database now shows about 1,270 unplugged oil producer records here against 1,840 plugged, and the royalty owners we hear from are usually holding a small fraction of a lease that has changed hands more than once and still pays something every quarter.

**What produces here.** The Illinois Petroleum Resources Board puts Richland County at 178,599 barrels for calendar 2025, down from 193,790 in 2024. The oil comes from the east end of Clay City Consolidated, shared with Clay and Wayne counties, and from Parkersburg Consolidated, Olney Consolidated, Olney South, Calhoun Consolidated, Berryville Consolidated, Stringtown, Schnell and Amity South, with pay in the Ste. Genevieve, Salem, Cypress, McClosky, Ullin and St. Louis. The operators you will see on checks and in the county records include Elysium Energy, Citation Oil and Gas, Bunn and Bunn Oil, Murvin Oil, Calvert Drilling, JKL Oil and Tri-State Production and Development, the last two of which completed oil wells here in 2025 according to the ISGS well database. New permits are rare: the IDNR weekly logs show none in 2025 and two in 2026, Murvin Oil's Deck 1 injection well in the Rosiclare on April 14 and the Kermicle-Black 3 to the Salem at 3,300 feet on August 7, 2026, in Township 5 North, Range 10 East in the north end of the county.

Whatever you own here, producing royalties, non-producing acreage, or an inherited fraction split among family, we will identify it from whatever paperwork you have, value it off the actual wells and activity, and show you the reasoning with the offer. Free, no obligation, and no pressure: if keeping it is the right answer, we will say so. Inherited it? Questions

## Straight answers for Richland County owners

What are mineral rights worth in Richland County?
It depends on the wells and units actually touching your tract, their decline, and your decimal, and in Richland County that almost always means a legacy Pure Oil lease or a small waterflood that has paid for generations, so county averages mislead. Illinois publishes no well-level production, so your check stubs and division orders are the record. We value off them and show the work, free.

Do I have to probate my parent's Richland County minerals?
Usually, if they were in your parent's name. Illinois treats severed minerals as real estate, and the small estate affidavit under 755 ILCS 5/25-1 reaches personal property only and cannot be used at all if the decedent owned any Illinois real estate. An out-of-state parent generally needs an ancillary probate in Richland County. On a committed purchase we coordinate and pay for the probate or ancillary proceeding ourselves.

My family's Richland County royalty checks stopped years ago. Where did the money go?
Probably to the Illinois State Treasurer. Under the unclaimed property act, 765 ILCS 1026, mineral proceeds including royalties, bonuses and delay rentals are presumed abandoned after three years and turned over under the last name and address the operator had. The interest is still yours and the money is claimable. We search the Treasurer's records free as part of every valuation.

What does it cost me to sell?
Nothing. Berlin pays all title work, document preparation, and recording costs. The offer you accept is the amount you receive.
